Dennis “Muzzy” Massoglia, 62, a resident of Calumet and East Grosse Point Shores passed away on Wednesday January 6, 2016 peacefully at his home with his family at his side.
He was born on February 23, 1953 to John and Anna (Butkovich) Massoglia in Laurium, Michigan.
He attended Calumet High School, graduating with the Class of 1971.
After high school, he attended Michigan Technological University graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, and a Masters Degree in Education.
He worked as a baker at both Thurner’s Bakery and Quality Supervalue in Laurium.
Dennis was a basketball coach for 36 years. He started in 1979 as a Junior High Boys Basketball coach, winning the 1st Junior High Boys Basketball Championship. In 1984 he began coaching Junior High Girls Basketball, where in which he coached for 30 years; Winning 11 Junior High Girls Championships; retiring in 2014.
He was a teacher at Washington Middle School for 23 years, teaching 8th grade mathematics. He was also a CLK Board of Education member and Student Council Advisor for the Washington Middle School.
Dennis was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Calumet and St. Francis of Assisi of Dollar Bay. He also served as the CLK Religious Education Director.
On January 1, 1989 he married the love of his life, Nancy Dollar, at the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet.
He is preceded in death by: his parents and three sisters; Dorothy Chopp, Shirley Houle, and Maggie Wendell.

A Funeral Mass for Dennis will be held on Sunday, January, 10 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet with Fr. Paul Manderfield to officiate and with Deacon Art Stancher to assist. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday January 9, 2016.
