Evelyn M. Salminen, age 88, a resident of Calumet passed away on Thursday December 3, 2015.
She was born on July 6, 1927, to Albert and Selma (Jarvi) Rankinen in Republic, MI.
She was a graduate of Republic High School with the class of 1946.
On July 13, 1952, she married Gust Salminen in Republic, MI.
Evelyn worked as a seamstress for the H.W. Gossard Company, a maker of women's corsets, in Ishpeming for 27 years.
Ev had no children but was a second mother and grandmother to many nephews and nieces.
She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic.
Ev is preceded in death by her parents, brothers- Reino, Lawrence, Clarence, James, Stanley, Roger and Marvin; sisters- Helen Mattila, Delphine Evans-Sugameli and Marilyn Olander.
She is survived by:
Sisters: Arlene Warlin of Republic, Michigan
Nancy (Fred) Levi of Republic, Michigan
Sister-in-laws: Rose Rankinen of Iron River, Michigan and Deloris Rankinen of Ishpeming, Michigan
And numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday December 8, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet with Pastor Peter Vorhes to officiate. Friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
Burial will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wednesday December 9, 2015.
